Phenolic resin is a synthetic resin produced through the polycondensation of phenolic compounds and aldehydes. It exhibits numerous excellent physicochemical properties, including adhesion, heat resistance, ablation resistance, flame retardancy, acid resistance, and electrical insulation. The raw materials for phenolic resin are readily available, inexpensive, and the synthesis process is relatively straightforward.
According to research data, the main applications of phenolic resin products in China are in three primary sectors: phenolic molding plastics, wood processing and laminates, and grinding and friction materials. Specifically, phenolic molding plastics account for 21.94% of total consumption, wood processing and laminates for 20.00%, and grinding and friction materials for 20.17%. These application areas place high demands on the physicochemical properties of phenolic resins, leading to their widespread use.
In recent years, the production technology level in China has gradually improved, significantly enhancing the performance of phenolic resins and broadening their application fields, resulting in growing market demand. Against this backdrop, the production capacity of phenolic resin in China has gradually expanded, with output increasing. By 2023, the production of phenolic resin in China has exceeded 1.6 million tons. From an import and export perspective, due to the high demand for phenolic resin in international markets, China’s export volume has increased. According to data released by the General Administration of Customs, in 2023, China exported 125,100 tons of phenolic resin, an increase of 18.66% year-on-year, while imports reached 86,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 0.94%.
