The clear fireproof coating for wood structures is a water-based solution formulated with organic and inorganic composite materials as binders, incorporating highly effective flame retardants and additives. Once dried, it forms a smooth film with excellent fire resistance, is non-toxic, and environmentally friendly, making it ideal for easy application. When exposed to fire, the coating expands and forms a uniform and dense honeycomb carbon layer, effectively protecting the wooden substrate.
Product Features:
- Non-combustible, non-explosive, non-toxic, and pollution-free, with fast drying properties.
- Outstanding fireproof and flame-retardant performance, available in various colors, with resistance to water, oil, and weathering.
Applications:
Suitable for wood in industrial and civil buildings, high-rise buildings, hotels, cultural and entertainment venues, and ancient buildings. You can apply it to wood structures, fiberboard, particleboard, and fiberglass products to provide fire protection. It also works on various leather materials and fabrics, enhancing their fire resistance. The coating forms a stable film that adapts to various climate conditions, making it suitable for use worldwide.
Instructions for Use:
1. This intumescent fireproof varnish is packaged in two components (Part A and Part B). When using the product, mix Part A and Part B in a 1:2 ratio, and stir until uniform.
A.If the ambient temperature is >28°C: Let it stand for 5 minutes before use. The mixed coating must be used within 30 minutes.
B.If the ambient temperature is <28°C: Let it stand for 10-20 minutes before use. The mixed coating must be used within 2 hours.
C.If the product becomes milky white and cloudy after the specified time, it is no longer usable.
2. Once the packaging of Part A or Part B is opened, it is best to use it within half a month.
3. Parts A and B should be transported and stored separately. Once mixed, the product must be used within 30 minutes.
4. The application process can be done by brushing, spraying, or rolling. Apply evenly, ensuring consistent brush strokes without crossing or rebrushing.
5. The application amount is approximately 500g/㎡.
Note: It is recommended to use plastic containers for mixing Parts A and B.
How Does Clear Fireproof Coating Protect Wooden Substrates?
To understand this, we need to consider the three elements of combustion: fuel (wooden substrate), oxidizer (oxygen), and ignition source. Fire occurs when all three conditions are met. The clear fireproof coating protects the wooden substrate by controlling the temperature conducted to the substrate, keeping it below the ignition point and interrupting the conditions necessary for continued combustion.
The flame retardants in the coating, such as melamine and ammonium polyphosphate, dehydrate and carbonize when exposed to fire, forming a carbonized layer that expands and foams, insulating the substrate from high temperatures and reducing heat transfer. This effectively protects the wooden substrate.
What is the Effect of Clear Fireproof Coating When Exposed to Fire?
Some may wonder about the effect of the clear fireproof coating when exposed to fire. The intumescent clear fireproof coating expands to form a carbon layer that insulates the substrate, protecting the wood from burning. So, its effect during combustion is to prevent ignition.
Is the Black Layer That Appears After Exposure to Fire a Sign of Burnt Wood?
When fire exposes the clear fireproof coating, it forms a black layer. Some people might assume this means the wood has burned, but the coating is actually protecting it. However, this black layer is the carbonized coating. This expanded carbon layer is much thicker than the original coating and serves as an insulating layer that temporarily prevents heat transfer, protecting the wood from reaching its ignition point.
So, the black layer is not burnt wood, but an insulating carbon layer that protects the wood.
What Are the Components and Characteristics of Clear Fireproof Coating?
As the name suggests, this fireproof coating has excellent transparency, allowing the natural grain of the substrate to show through. Its composition includes acid sources, dehydrating agents, and charring agents, such as ammonium polyphosphate, melamine, and pentaerythritol. However, its production process is more complex than that of ordinary fireproof coatings.
The main characteristic is its high transparency, which allows the substrate’s grain to be visible through the coating. This makes it suitable for wooden structures. As a fireproof coating, it foams to form a carbon layer when exposed to fire, protecting the substrate from burning.
It is highly suitable for protecting ancient wooden buildings, cultural relics, high-end furniture, and luxurious interior decorations.
