Water-based High-Temperature Ceramic Glass Coating

Why We Focus on Organic Silicone Microspheres

Water-based high-temperature silicone resin ceramic glass coating uses SIOResin water-based silicone resin SIO-715 as the film-forming material and glass powder as the heat-resistant filler. This coating, capable of withstanding temperatures between 800°C and 1000°C, achieves its high-temperature resistance through the secondary melting and sintering of glass powder above 600°C. Due to the high content of glass powder in the filler, the sintered coating exhibits high density, high gloss, insulation, high-temperature resistance, high hardness, scratch resistance, and anti-graffiti properties.

Water-based High-Temperature Ceramic Glass Coating

Water-based High-Temperature Silicone Resin Features

  • Excellent water dilutability, low odor, free of toluene and xylene, meeting environmental regulations.
  • Superior film-forming ability, good wettability, and leveling, with rapid surface drying at room temperature.
  • Strong adhesion to metal substrates such as copper, aluminum, and iron.
  • Exceptional hardness, reaching up to 8-9H depending on the substrate and curing temperature.
  • Once fully cured, the film demonstrates excellent thermal stability, weather resistance, and salt spray resistance.
  • The coating itself can withstand extreme temperatures up to 1000°C. When applied on metal substrates, it can endure up to 800°C with minimal color change after prolonged high-temperature exposure.

Started Formulation of High-Temperature Ceramic Glass Coating

For water-based high-temperature silicone resin ceramic glass coating, the following recommended formulation can be used as a starting point to prepare a water-based single-component baking-type ceramic glass coating:

Glass Paste Formulation:

Component Quantity (Parts by weight) Supplier
Deionized Water 531.6 -
Dispersant BYK-190 24 BYK
Anti-settling Agent BYK-420 (10%) 18 BYK
Anti-settling Agent Bentone LT (2%) 24 Hainings
Defoamer Foamex 810 2.4 Tego
Low-Melting Glass Powder or Glass Powder 600 -

Pigment and Filler Content = 50%

Procedure:

  • 1. Add defoamer, anti-settling agent, and dispersant into deionized water. Mix at 1000 rpm for 5 minutes.
  • 2. Add low-melting glass powder or glass powder, mix at 2000-3000 rpm for 45 minutes.

Water-based High-Temperature Ceramic Glass Coating Formulation:

Component Quantity (Parts by weight)
Silicone Resin Emulsion SIO-715 100
Glass Paste 67-100
Anti-settling Agent (Bentone LT, 2%) 4
Anti-flash Rust Agent 1.0
Epoxy Phosphate (Adhesion Promoter) 1
Defoamer (Tego Foamex 810) 0.1
Wetting Agent (Tego 4100) 0.3
Thickener (SIOResin H-1100A) 1-2

Procedure:

  • 1. Disperse all components uniformly at 1000-1500 rpm for 20-30 minutes. Adjust viscosity as necessary and filter using a 200-mesh bag before packaging.

Notes:

  • Adjust solid content by adding deionized water as needed.
  • Adjust pigment-to-binder ratio to achieve desired gloss and thermal properties. High pigment-to-binder ratio yields low gloss and good heat resistance; low ratio yields high gloss, good salt spray resistance, and excellent abrasion resistance. Consider using high ratio for primer and low ratio for topcoat.
  • Recommended dry film thickness per coat: 35-50 microns. Thicker films are prone to cracking. Ensure complete curing before re-coating.
  • During initial use, slowly heat to high temperatures for secondary sintering. Avoid placing unsintered items directly in high-temperature environments to prevent film cracking.

High-Temperature Ceramic Glass Coating Usage Instructions

Application Methods:

  • Screen Printing or Spraying

Application Process:

  • 1.Stir the paint thoroughly before use. If necessary, dilute with 5-10% deionized water based on spraying viscosity requirements. Conduct small-scale tests first.
  • 2.Surface Preparation: Remove oil and rust. For large-scale applications, enhance adhesion by sandblasting, brushing, or grinding the substrate.
  • 3.Application: Use screen printing or spraying. After surface drying at room temperature, bake or low-temperature bake below 80°C to accelerate drying. Avoid high-temperature baking of wet films to prevent bubbling.
  • 4.Baking: Fully cure at 200-280°C for 10-60 minutes, preferably at 220°C for 30 minutes or 280°C for 10 minutes.
  • 5.Secondary Sintering: Slowly increase temperature to 500-800°C for 10-30 minutes, preferably at 600°C for 30 minutes (low-melting glass powder) or 750°C for 10 minutes (glass powder).

Precautions:

  • Stir thoroughly before use due to the different densities of high-temperature materials in the paint. Cover the container promptly after use to prevent thickening and skinning. Clean spray guns and brushes with water to prevent residual paint from skinning at room temperature, affecting future use.
